Pop pop pop! The sound of the bush
The many varieties of wattle continue their staggered display of brilliant yellow flowers.
The different ranges of yellows are always satisfying. Then there is the great nitrogen fixing ability of these plants quietly improving the soil and helping the bush recover after the inevitable bush fires.
There is another unusual treat for those who are patient, quite and enjoy being in the bush.
Around this time of year as we march onwards into summer the intensity of the Sun is really increasing in heat. The heat dries the Wattle seed pods and if you are lucky to be in the right spot, at the right time, the bush comes alive with high pitched popping sounds.
This is a very unusual experience!
To be standing alone in the bush and as the Sun comes out from behind a cloud you are surrounded by pops as the dried seed pods explosively spring open, flinging their precious cargo of seeds far and wide.
This is the second time in about eight years that I was lucky to witness this phenomenon.
It is another reward for those who take the time to slow down and enjoy the natural environment.
