390 ppm and climbing!
The latest "state of the climate 2012" report from the CSIRO and BOM is out.Unfortunately it makes for some very depressing reading.Seehttp://www.bom.gov.au/announcements/media_releases/ho/stateClimate2012.pdfAnnual growth in global fossil-fuel CO2 emissions between 2009 and 2010 was 5.9 per cent! The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere in 2011 was 390 parts per million (ppm) – much higher than the natural range of 170 to 300 ppm during the past 800,000 years. The world’s 13 warmest years have all occurred in the 15 years since 1997. The planet’s average surface temperature has increased by about 0.8 °C, and Australia’s by about 0.9 ˚C, during the past century. Please have a read of the original document and spread the word.
Full to the very top
This is the outlet from our big tank, the one that acts as a rain bank to get us through the drier times. This tank has been in for six and a half years and has never been full.I have been pumping water up to it when ever we have some spare. Now as a result of years of water banking and also due to the big wet on the east coast we finally have a 129,000 L tank full to the top. Our dam is close to overflowing and the smaller (everyday) tank of 18,000 L is full as well.
It is a good time to be a frog!
Progress,,, one step forward.. two steps.... !
Since my last post the Little Lady and I have been busy running all the conduits and wires for the first fix of the electrics. Lots of conduits and cables run in all directions, emphasizing just how much our world depends upon electricity in all its forms.I think she has really taken to this job...... she should be at least ranked as a 3rd yr apprentice in my opinion!
I have been busy laying the beginnings of our floor, unfortunately about a third of the way through a little misjudgement caused me to fall through the joists while carrying a 45 kg sheet of flooring. Normally this would have resulted in some discomfort and major bruising (not uncommon).
Unfortunately I happen to fall right where the hardwood decking timber board ends formed a knife blade which shaved and sliced my calf and knee. I have been out of action for 13 +days. I am not good company, mad with the discomfort and the fact that I can not progress on a hundred things that need completing. The wound will require dressing for another week at least. Grrrrr! All the while, friends want to know how I am (there is no day to day progress..). 13 days post the damage looks unchanged (these wounds will take weeks to heal), they want to know how long I will be delayed ....... I am stewing on the wasted time. It can be difficult to be civil..... especially when pain and self doubt cloud ones outlook. The rain continues to fall! I am cabin bound, bored, very pissed off and eager to be back at it!I am sure there must be a silver cloud.....I am off, in a hopping gait, to find it!
